🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🇬🇧 Temple of Venus and Rome, Rome. The Temple of Venus and Rome was the largest temple of ancient Rome. The structure is located in the eastern part of the Roman Forum and occupies all the space between the Basilica of Maxentius and the Colosseum valley. The building was dedicated to two deities: Venus Felix and to Rome Aeterna. The construction, begun in AD 121, was officially inaugurated by Hadrian in AD 135 and ended in AD 141 during the reign of Antoninus Pius. The Temple was designed by the emperor Hadrian, whose work was harshly criticized by the great architect Apollodorus of Damascus, who was killed because of such boldness. The area on which the building stands was previously occupied by the atrium of the Domus Aurea, in the center of which was placed the bronze colossus depicting Nero. 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 📸 Photo by @jv_nick 🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹 #italy #italia #rome #roma #fororomano #romanforum #valledelcolosseo #colosseumvalley #tempiodivenereeroma #templeofvenusandrome #archeologia #archeology #archaeology #beniculturali #worldheritage #romantemple #heritage #architecture #architettura

🇬🇧 In the Aeneid, Virgil tells of the adventure of the Greeks who, immigrants from Arcadia, led them to settle on one of the seven hills of Rome, the Palatine. According to Roman mythology, the Palatine was the birthplace of Romulus and Remus, the brothers suckled by the she-wolf who later became the founders of the city. Today the Palatine hill is one of the most evocative places in the city: home to the ruling class of ancient Rome, and later to the gardens of the Farnese family, today the Palatine is a veritable open-air museum #rome #eterncity #gipsythequeen #museum #bestcityintheworld #open-air museum #blogger #travel #travelblogger

  • Today was another whirlwind day in Rome, starting at The Trevi Fountain. We made sure to throw some coins in for a speedy return some day. Then to the Spanish Steps and on to the Pantheon, where we saw the actual tomb of the great artist Raphael, interred next to the alter. On the way home, we made our way to Piazza Navona and, finally, to the Column of Marcus Aurelious. Easy to walk around this place and find something historically important.
