  • Hey hey! It’s the halfway point for our #triptobooyamoon 🌺 . So, how much are you enjoying this smucking book?! 😆 I know quite a few people have already finished because they just couldn’t stop which makes me SO happy 😍 if you have finished or gone past the half way mark, please don’t refer to any potential spoilers in the comments! . Some questions: 🌺 How did you find the first 100 pages or so? I know a number of people initially struggled to get into it! 🌺 Are you a fan of the special language that Lisey and Scott share in their relationship? 🌺 If this is a first time read, do you have any guesses for where the second half of the book will lead us? 🌺 Overall thoughts so far? Are you a lover or a hater? . 🌺 I remember when I first read Lisey’s Story I found it quite hard to get into. But if you persevere and get through the first 100 pages or so, it just gets SO DAMN GOOD 😍 since this is a reread for me I was hooked from the beginning, as those first 100 pages make a lot more sense on the second go round and I am picking up on things I would have missed the first time! . 🌺 All the “smucking” and references to “bools” can be quite irritating at first 🤦🏼‍♀️ but I think it’s something a lot of people can relate to. I know Matthew and I share our own language at times that outsiders would be completely clueless about 😂 . 🌺 I can’t really comment since this is a reread for me 👀 . 🌺 I’m somehow loving this even more on my second read. Currently it sits at number 6 in my list of top Kings, but it might just climb up a spot or two by the end 🙌🏻 . . . . . . . . #stephenking #readalong #liseysstory #currentlyreading #nowreading #whatimreading #bibliophile #bookstagram #reading #igreads #bookworm #booknerd #booklover #booklove #lovebooks #bookish #bookaddict #read #fiction

  • Happy #Caturday 🐾🐈 I’m smiling but still very anxious after the week I’ve had. It’s still going to be a while yet for the medication to take effect and smooth out all those brain chemicals currently making my days difficult. I’m exhausted as well so I won’t be as active on here for a bit! I’ve really missed seeing and hearing about how you’re all doing 💛

  • • Kingsley Amis was brilliant at portraying otherwise ordinary characters in an incisively funny way, and this novel was no exception. There's Jenny, the 'chaste' & very pretty young teacher, away from home for the first time and having to fend off the lascivious advances of her boyfriend Patrick, and her creepy landlord Dick Thompson. The novel recounts Jenny's experience entering the world of work in 1960 Britain and the dynamics of dealing with a boyfriend with only one aim in mind. Up to a point Patrick was a sort of likeable cad, I mean lad, and then his conduct at a drunken party puts him squarely in the criminal category and would at the very least make him a candidate for the #metoo movement if it had existed in 1960, which it did not, clearly. So there are interesting issues of consent here, in a book very much of it's era, but read against a 2018 backdrop. I would like to think that even in 1960 this character's conduct was received with censure, but I'm not sure it was. Sigh ... •

@editions Albin michel ☆ #bookaddict #books #livres #bookporn #bookalcoholic #booklove #bookworm #igreads #igbook #bibliophile #litterature #dailypicture #dailyphoto #bookish #instabook #writer #lametallo #instareading #catherineecoleboivin #lecture #nantes #basseindre #forge #laminoire

  • #49 ~~~~.~~~~.~~~~ Frances Price is on a mission to spend spend spend, and to do so until she is completely bankrupt. When this eventuality is close to realisation she finds herself shut out of her foreclosed New York apartment, awaiting the arrival of her son, Malcolm. Calling in a favour from her only friend, Frances and Malcolm take a cruise to Paris, with their cat, Small Frank, to live in an apartment there. Frances believes Small Frank houses her dead husband’s spirit and taking him on a cruise and getting past border control in France without documentation is no mean feat. Once in Paris we meet a host of eccentric characters, while Frances tries to navigate her own self-destruction. ~~~~.~~~~.~~~~ It’s not often I would call a book ‘a jolly romp of a novel’, but this is it. Bonkers, lively, witty, sharp, strange, whimsical and humorous - all words to describe French Exit. The novel is subtitled ‘A Tragedy of Manners’ and manners are definitely something that many of these characters are tragically lacking. ~~~~.~~~~.~~~~ While I found this book to be very readable, if it were a film there would be goofs and continuity errors all over the place. DeWitt is a clever enough writer that it’s certain that this is intended, but it may bother readers who are not used to his rather farcical plots. Overall it was quite similar in style to his last novel, Undermajordomo Minor, but I enjoyed reading it all the same. ~~~~.~~~~.~~~~ While I’m here I’d like to point you in the direction of @whatstevereads who also recently reviewed this book. We may slightly disagree on this one, but that’s the joy of books! Steve suggests that if you are new to deWitt, check out The Sisters Brothers first, and I concur.

  • Happy Saturday Everyone!!! Today I’m sharing with you a book I devoured last night - A CALL FOR REVOLUTION by His Holiness The Dalai Lama and Sofia Stril-Rever. Personally I have been feeling helpless and hopeless about the state of things in the United States, the UK, and the world in general. This book, is one of hope. Hope for the world, our future, and most importantly humanity. This one is a quick read, but it’s not one to be rushed. Synopsis: A Landmark Message from His Holiness the Dalai Lama: Are we ready to hear it? Are we ready to act? I call on you to confront the challenges of our era by rising up and embarking upon a revolution that has no precedent in human history. This eloquent, urgent manifesto is possibly the most important message the Dalai Lama can give us about the future of our world. It’s his rallying cry, full of solutions for our chaotic, aggressive, divided times: no less than A CALL FOR REVOLUTION.

  • 👋🏽💜 🇬🇧I've finished reading "Not working" by Lisa Owens a few days ago. I've started reading this book last year and decided one week ago to finish it. I have to admit I really enjoyed reading this book even when I couldn't relate to the main character. I think people who are in the same situation as she is could relate more to her, I mean when they are also searching for a new job. And because of this can I recommend this book to adults.

  • You ever get buried underneath a short-term tbr? The library waitlist has dumped everything on me at once and I’m in complete denial that I can’t get my work done and start/finish both of these books this weekend. 😅 . I have to read Michelle’s book before I got to her book tour on 12/1! . And no, I haven’t read Lady Midnight yet ... I actually forced myself to wait for the third of The Dark Artifices before starting the trilogy! Now it’s time and I just want to devour it. In this cozy green sweater. . Q: What should I be prepared to feel about Lady Midnight??

  • Who else agrees with me that most adult coloring books are too hard? The people producing them seem to think that adult fun/stress relief comes from coloring in 8 million teeny tiny geometric, leaf/floral, or random shapes per page. To which I say a gigantic nope. Give me a coloring book for toddlers over that nonsense any day. BUT this coloring book is perfect! It still has its intricacies, but overall it’s just fun pictures of Parisian fashion for you to color in at your leisure. Le sigh - enchanté! (my apologies for briefly butchering your beautiful language French speakers) So I’m giving a #bookthankful shoutout to this fashionable coloring book, Paris Street Style. Happy coloring!

Wciąga i zaskakuje.

  • I’m still working through The Bette Davis Club and Anna Karenina on my Kindle, but I’m missing physical books so I might start working my way through this one too. I’m not going to force myself through Anna Karenina though. I have a hard time with classics. I picked it up last year and liked it, but I hardly made a dent so I’m giving it another try. Today will also be filled with lots of Gilmore Girls and attempting to be productive just a tiny bit. My main goal with the weekend is to not leave my apartment or talk to anyone. 🙈 anyone else a hardcore hermit on the weekend?

  • “Stories never really end...even if the books like to pretend they do. Stories always go on. They don't end on the last page, any more than they begin on the first page.” 🖋 QOTD: Which bookish world is closest to your heart? 🖋 I think it is amazing how much a story can put you under it’s spell. I first read this series when I was eight years old and have re-read it so many times that I know whole passages by heart. It made me discover my love for books and words. The characters became my friends, they showed me love and friendship, passion and sacrifice, the good and the bad. I learned to use my imagination when I read these books like never before. • Happy Weekend Guys! Would you rather have a letter from the author or just signed bookplates? We prefer letters over bookplates because the idea of owning a signed copy feels better if one can get it signed by the author personally. So, talking of author letters, y’all might be getting a letter from the author of Darius The Great is not Okay! Now he has honestly gone on to be one of my favourite authors and I am just as excited to hear from him as y’all. You can sign up for Novmember boxes from the site, there are last few days to go for that. • 🤟🏻✌🏻👌🏻 • Guys we’ll be available over DMs and mails now. Our support handle will be updated over in the story in a little while. You won’t need to write over on Zendesk, since that’s been a hassle for a few of you. The timings and the hours o availability will be shared along too. • 👌🏻🤟🏻✌🏻 • Also tell us all about how your festivities went? We can’t wait to hear from all of you. Although Diwali and Dussehra have gone, we have Christmas and New Year to look forward to. Also guys, we will be announcing the winners of the Candles giveaway tomorrow. • Good evening 🍂 I'm having a cozy saturday with my coffee and book. I'm currently reading tower of dawn. I'm not a fan of Chaol to be honest but release of kingdom of ash gives me no choice. However, writing style is better than the previous books. Another thing about that this book is huge. But like unnecessary kinda huge. I'm on the halfway and nothing is happening - nothing i would call action - Could have been less than 700 pages... AND IM GOING TO SEE FANTASTIC BEASTS 2 TOMORROW. SO EXCITED. I know most of you have seen it already tell me how was it It was amazing wasn't it waiting is painful
